MFL

French at Leigham Primary School is taught through the Language Angels scheme. We offer a broad, relevant and ambitious curriculum which helps to deepen pupil's understanding of the world around them. Our aim is to inspire and excite our pupils through a variety of themes and topics. This is achieved through the aims of speaking, listening, reading and writing with grammar built into this.

Curriculum Intent

Exploring different cultures and learning a new language will encourage our children to become global citizens. We aim for our children to develop their ability to communicate effectively and expressively enabling them to speak, read and write independently in French. By using a range of high-quality resources, we aim to stimulate students of all abilities to become inquisitive, reflective learners of languages.

Curriculum Impact

Our children will become confident communicators, able to use their language skills effectively in a variety of different contexts. They will have developed a broad understanding of the French language (in particular vocabulary) along with a growing ability to read and write in French.  Our children will have a desire to further explore France and other countries, together with an inquisitive nature about the wider world that they live in.

How are we raising standards for our children?

  • High-quality teaching for all children across the school. Peer observations will ensure consistency across the year group.
  • Regular assessment ensures that children consolidate their learning and build vocabulary.
  • Consistent end of unit assessments in reading, speaking, writing and listening.
