Maths

At Leigham, our mathematics curriculum provides children with a foundation for understanding number, reasoning, thinking logically and problem solving. We follow the White Rose scheme of learning and aim to deliver a high-quality maths curriculum that is both challenging and enjoyable. We aim for children to apply their mathematical knowledge and make links to other areas of the curriculum.

Curriculum Intent

Our mathematics curriculum provides children with a foundation for understanding number, reasoning, thinking logically and problem solving with resilience so that they are fully prepared for the future. We aim to deliver a high-quality maths curriculum that is both challenging and enjoyable. We aim to create independent learners with inquisitive minds who have secure mathematical foundations and can apply their mathematical knowledge to other areas of the curriculum.

Curriculum Impact

Our children will demonstrate quick recall of facts and procedures. They will develop an understanding of maths in different contexts and representations.  They will gain the ability to recognise relationships and make connections in mathematics.  We hope the children gain confidence in believing that they will achieve. They will show a high level of pride in the presentation and understanding of their work.

How are we raising standards for our children?

  • High-quality teaching for all children across the school. Peer observations will ensure consistency across the year group.
  • PPMs enable target groups to be identified. Well planned interventions take place to ensure that gaps in knowledge are reduced and children continue to make progress.
  • Learning walks from subject leaders.
