P.E plays a vital role in the physical and emotional development of all children. Sport can be inspirational, be fundamental in forming friendships and building the foundations for a lifelong healthy lifestyle.
Leigham primary school is committed to providing a minimum of 2 hours high quality physical education for all our children. Our nursery children take part in physical activity, along with our Foundation stage and Key stage 1 children who participate in the 'Leap into life' programme. This is supported by traditional gymnastics, games and dance lessons. As our children move into Key stage 2, they build on these fundamental movements with an introduction to traditional team sports (football, cricket, tag-rugby, basketball, netball, hockey and cricket). During the summer term, the focus switches to rounders and athletics as we build up to our competitive sports day where all children participate.
There are many sporting clubs for children at Leigham. These range from football to netball, tennis to cricket, athletics to the very popular scooter club. There is also the opportunity to represent Leigham primary school in many sporting teams, all of which compete locally and on a city wide level. The sporting season ends with our 'Sports personality of the year' awards ceremony. This gives us the opportunity to celebrate individual and team success from the academic year.
Our school has a proud sporting tradition and a very strong reputation across the city for fair play and no shortage of talent.
